Charlottetown and Cornwall to Welcome The Dominion Curling Club Championship
Dec 16, 2009

CHARLOTTETOWN, December 14, 2009 – The City of Charlottetown and Town of Cornwall today announced that they will welcome The Dominion Curling Club Championship – Canada’s first-ever national championship for club curlers – from November 23-28, 2010.

This will be the event’s second year, following last month’s thrilling inaugural competition in Toronto, which welcomed 28 men’s and women’s teams representing each of the country’s provinces and territories, along with a guest list that included World Champion curler Glenn Howard and 1998 Olympic Silver Medalist Mike Harris. 2010 will continue the format over four days of tournament play, followed by playoffs to declare new men’s and women’s Canadian Champions.

The event’s 2010 dates will be hosted at the Charlottetown and Cornwall Curling Clubs. Funded by The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company (The Dominion), all profits from The Dominion Curling Club Championship will be directed to the Canadian Paraplegic Association and curling initiatives in communities across the country.

“Charlottetown has a strong and proud tradition of sport and an outstanding reputation for being one of the most successful host cities in Canada,” said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “We’re known as a city with hospitality, vibrancy and an enthusiastic crowd of volunteers. We look forward to a strong hosting partnership with the Town of Cornwall and encourage everyone to experience The Dominion Curling Club Championship.”

"The Town of Cornwall is very happy to be working with the City of Charlottetown in hosting this exciting event," added Cornwall Mayor Patrick MacFadyen.

“Feedback from our participants and the curling community at large has been simply outstanding,” remarked George Cooke, President and CEO of The Dominion, “and we eagerly anticipate next year’s event in Prince Edward Island.”
